Uplink, Tokyo March 31- April 5, 2010 http://www.uplink.co.jp/gallery/ Uplink first started in 1987 as a film distribution company distributing films directed by Derek Jarman of England, in Japan. In 2005, it expanded and became a multipurpose space with a cafe, restaurant, bar, gallery, digital video theater, and live music house. Now, Uplink is one of the most independent, cutting edge film companies in Japan. Uplink is also a publishing company, with titles such as "Mapplethorpe", "Andy Warhol's Factory Photo", "Autobiography of Malcom X", Gas Van Sant's "PINK", Ethan Cohen's "Gate of Eden", Tim Burton's "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other stories" to name a few. "The concept of the Uplink Gallery is "diversity". It is a meeting place for many kinds of styles and genres of art, without being tied down to one set of values" - Tokyo Art Beat.
